BVB Substrates realized at the end of 2022 a new casing soil production facility in Wanssum. Previously this production activity was located at their site in Grubbenvorst. This available space, together with BVB’s growth ambitions, led to the question how their site in Grubbenvorst should be re-designed allowing for the future increased capacity and changing activities. BVB asked Groenewout first to perform a high-level European network study to determine what the best production locations should be each with their specific function, including Grubbenvorst. Subsequentially, the request was to determine the future site layout.
Solution
Outbound data was analysed and verified to determine the size of the markets in Europe. A few networks were evaluated, and the final assumption for the production site in Grubbenvorst was made. Following this Groenewout performed a feasibility study with several alternatives for the redesign of the site layout, including moving production locations on site, increasing production and storage capacity and adding a warehouse on site as an alternative for the outside yard storage. For the preferred alternative a phased approach was determined.
