Peak Warehouse

Bol (e-commerce) has extreme peaks at the end of the year, with the holidays but also with Black Friday. In these periods, the mechanized BFC1 and BFC2 warehouses do not have sufficient capacity, therefore bol. wanted to have additional warehouse capacity, in a flexible method, for a few months per year.

Opportunities

Groenewout supported bol to design and implement a Peak Warehouse to support this. ​

Requirements of the Peak Warehouse were:​

  • Picking of 5000 SKU’s, medium/large-sized​
  • Capacity of max 100.000 pieces picked per day​
  • High flexibility​
  • Low CAPEX​
  • Short implementation time

Solution

Groenewout proposed a warehouse with pallet racks (wide aisles), shelving and manual packing stations. This set-up met all requirements and, because the processes were already known within bol, required a very short implementation time of the WMS.​

  • Project meetings with other departments of bol (operations, IT, HR, transport)​
  • Decision which SKU to pick in the Peak WH​
