Insourcing logistics
De Beren
At the start of the study, logistics was outsourced to a food wholesaler and a butcher. Both the food wholesaler and the butcher brought the ordered goods to all restaurants. Each restaurant received 3-4 deliveries per week from the food wholesaler.
Opportunities
With the growing number of restaurants, De Beren would like to analyse the opportunity to insource logistics and develop its own warehouse and use its own trucks to deliver to the restaurants.
Activities done by Groenewout:
- Analysis of the required size of the warehouse
- Center of gravity analysis
- Required number of trucks
- Calculation of CAPEX and OPEX, both for the warehouse and for transport
Solution
- The analysis showed, that the break-even point for insources logistics, was between 175 and 200 restaurants.
Benefits
- More insight via data analysis
- Support the decision process on the way forward
