European Distribution Network Study
Canon produces photo/ video cameras, printers, scanners and copiers, both for office and at home. In Europe, Canon has a central warehouse in Maasvlakte (Netherlands) and a regional warehouse in Gyal (Hungary).
Canon also has a regional warehouse in Spain and a spare parts warehouse in Amstelveen, but for this study these are assumed to remain the same.
Opportunities
Canon would like to investigate the option to have two main warehouses that are more equal in size.
The thoughts go to a West and East warehouse. The West warehouse will remain in Maasvlakte.
Questions to be answered in the study:
- What is the optimal location for the East warehouse?
- What is the required size, both for the East and West warehouse?
Solution
The following scenarios were analyzed
- Base case (current situation)
- West- and East warehouse on optimal location, assuming that Germany is completely served from the East warehouse
- West- and East warehouse on optimal location, assuming that Germany can be served from both warehouses
- Adding a warehouse in UK
- 1 central DC for total Europe
Benefits
- Quantification of scenarios
- Input for internal discussions at Canon
