Groenewout shares practical insights with BUas students

How do you determine the best location for a logistics operation? What investments make a warehouse future-proof, and what does the rise of AI mean for tomorrow’s supply chain? Groenewout consultants discussed these and other questions with students from Breda University of Applied Sciences.

During a recent guest lecture as part of the Material Logistics Improvement and Innovation program, students gained insight into the day-to-day practice of logistics consulting. Using concrete examples, our experts Mark van der Boor and Rogier Verhaar demonstrated how strategic decisions in supply chain and warehousing are made.

One of the central themes was location strategy. The students gained insight into the considerations involved in selecting a suitable location for clients. The session also covered Center of Gravity analyses: a method that helps clarify logistics flows and optimal location choices. Precisely because the students are grappling with similar issues themselves, this provided valuable in-depth insight.

In addition to analytical models, there was plenty of room for discussion. This led to a lively conversation about the impact of AI on organizations, decision-making, and the division of roles within management, HR, and IT, among others. The exchange of ideas made it clear how strongly technological developments are affecting the logistics sector.

The financial aspects of warehouse issues were also addressed. The section on OPEX and CAPEX focused on how organizations can evaluate investment decisions and which cost components play a role in that process.

The session concluded with an exploration of current solutions in warehouse automation. Students were introduced to technologies such as AGVs, AMRs, and AS/RS and gained greater insight into how to determine, on a per-operation basis, which solution actually meets an organization’s needs.
