Merba produces high quality cookies. In the last 30 years Merba has been growing extensively. The globally well-known chocolate chip cookies have been the stepstone for international expansion, enabling enhanced and automated production processes.
A few years ago Merba invested in an automatic pallet crane high-bay warehouse for intermediate and finished goods.
Opportunities
Merba has the opportunity to expand their operation by using an adjacent hall that became available. Groenewout helped to design various concepts, meeting Merba’s capacities and detailing out the processes and lay out for the new hall as a new outbound logistics.
Solution
- Resolving current constrained storage capacity of intermediate- and finished goods and insufficient crane throughput, restricting the output.
- Developing a long-term plan to increase throughput and storage capacity using a mix of shuttle-racks, AGV transport and shipment sorting conveyors.
- Ability to start manually and gradually scale up with automation.

- The automation option will increase storage density and therefore facility storage capacity growth and to deal with higher throughput, even at outbound peaks
